THE POWER COUPLE: Owain and Dani Matthews
These guys are the dictionary definition of doing it all! Owain and Dani juggle two kids under 5 while training for the Ironman 70.3 and Sprint Triathlon World Age Group Champs, and coaching other athletes to success too. Busy as they are, you’ll never see them without a smile and a friendly word.
Words to live by: “Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it”
I’m an Age Group Triathlete and Performance Triathlon Coach in Sydney Australia. After transitioning from years as a runner, with International representation for Great Britain and Wales, I discovered a new passion in triathlon and triathlon coaching. I won the 2016 Ironman 70.3 World Age Group Championshops (M35-39) and have competed in the Ironman World Championships twice.

Non-cycling related passions: Everything to do with superheroes and comics – I am a massive nerd
THE CLASS JOKER: Bel Fong
Purpose: “If we can help just one person build their confidence on the road and realise how much fun cycling can be, then we’ve done our job. I think it’s also important to give back to the community and to help other riders learn how to be safe on the road, especially when you’ve been a beginner yourself so you understand how intimidating it can be.”
I was once a kid that hated physical activity. Even in my 20’s, I didn’t enjoy running when I first started (I think I lasted about 6 mins in my first attempt)! I want to show women that it IS possible to improve your fitness as you get older & offer them hope that it CAN absolutely happen if you want it enough, as long as you are willing to work hard, keep showing up and making sure you have fun. Because you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right.
Day Job: I work full time in the Learning & Development team at Australian Fitness Network (we offer online continuing education for fitness professionals). I’m also a part-time mobile massage therapist and personal trainer.
Favourite bike(s) of choice: Liv Envie and Liv Avow TT (Di2 has changed my life)!
What project/goal/focus are you working on at the moment? Currently in training for the Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon (with a goal of breaking 100 mins). And recently qualified, alongside fellow Liv ambassador and good friend, Dani Matthews, for the Australian Team at the Age Group World Championships in triathlon which will be held on the Gold Coast in September. We’ll both be competing in the sprint distance race (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run).
Favourite post ride snack/coffee: Smashed avo on toast and a soy chai latte (I’m one of the very few weirdos that doesn’t like coffee. I know, blasphemy)!
Ultimate bike ride: I love cycling in new places but always enjoy the West Head/Akuna Bay loop through Kuring-Gai National Park. Mixture of smooth and bumpy roads, rolling hills and ‘character building’ climbs!
Non-cycling related passions: Raising money for the Love Your Sister Foundation (http://bit.ly/LoveYourSwimBikeRun) to support cancer research. And I’m also passionate about making time for fun adventures, especially as we get older and busier in our lives.
THE YOUNG GUN: Kieran Roche
Words to live by: “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” – We do this sport because we love it. It should be a source of happiness not stress!
I’m just a 25 year old guy enjoying life and not taking shit too seriously!
